New national radio station heroes inspirational women on international women’s day

7 March 2019, Oxford: JACK Radio, an innovative new national digital radio station, which plays music exclusively from female artists, will be providing a platform to some of the world’s most inspirational women this International Women’s Day (Friday 8 March 2019), with the launch of Inspirational Women – a series of segments that showcase some of the world’s most inspiring stories from some of the world’s most incredible women.

JACK Radio’s Inspirational Women will see 12 stories broadcast throughout the day on International Women’s Day, covering women in conservation, literature, nursing, computing, science, human rights/education, aviation, sport, culinary arts, music and civil rights/activism. The segments to be played will focus on 12 women who changed the world through their actions: Jane Goodall, Jane Austen, Florence Nightingale, Ada Lovelace, Rosalind Franklin, Malala Yousafzai, Amelia Earhart, Billie-Jean King, Julie Child, Michelle Obama, Nina Simone and Rosa Parks.

Following International Women’s Day, Inspirational Women will become a regular feature on JACK Radio, with listeners able to hear more inspiring stories from iconic women daily.

Belinda Doyle, Programme Director at JACK Radio, said: “We wanted to create something that would not only celebrate International Women’s Day on JACK Radio, but which also has a lasting message and continues to provide a platform to some of the world’s greatest women. Our series Inspirational Women will launch on International Women’s Day, but we will be continuing the legacy by making it an ongoing feature on our station, which already provides an unrivalled platform for women in music through its exclusive music policy.”

The launch of JACK Radio was announced late last year and made headlines with its world-first-broadcast radio format, which sees the station playing 100% female artists and providing a platform for women in music – from the female stars of the past to today’s main artists, along with its ‘Cover Girls’ – a selection of well-known songs covered by a wide range of female artists.

JACK Radio sits alongside its more established sibling, Union JACK; a national digital radio station which celebrates the best of British music and comedy. Both stations are the brainchild of the team who created Absolute Radio and who are behind the highly successful and multi-award-winning JACK fm – the most awarded local radio brand in UK radio history – JACK 2 Hits and JACK 3 Chill.

JACK Radio features a wide range of women in music, from Adele, Kylie and Diana Krall, to Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston and Blondie, all of which are seamlessly brought together with witty interjection and engaging and intelligent programming. Subsequent high-profile appointments are also expected to be announced in due course.

JACK Radio is available across the UK on digital radio (DAB+), online at,
