HEY JUDE VOTED BEATLES BEST HIT

10 December 2021, Oxford: Listeners of national digital radio station Union JACK Radio, renowned for its unique offering of British comedy and all-British music, have voted Hey Jude as the Beatles’ best ever hit. Hey Jude was followed by Eleanor Rigby (2), A Day in the Life (3), and Yesterday (4), with more than 2,000 votes cast in the poll to find The Beatles’ top four hits.

The poll was held to mark the launch of new Disney+ Docuseries, The Beatles: Get Back, and was further supported with a special two-hour Beatles-focused radio show on Union JACK Radio, hosted by Beatlemaniac and award-winning broadcaster, Geoff Lloyd. Geoff Lloyd’s Get Back, which can still be heard online at unionjack.co.uk, covers all things Fab Four, celebrating the most influential music act of all time and delving into the Beatles’ music and cultural significance.

Lloyd, who has a longstanding relationship with all things Beatles and who has previously hosted another Beatles extravaganza, Beatlejuice, for Union JACK Radio, said: ““Hey Jude is one of The Beatles most adored hits, so it’s not at all surprising that Union JACK Radio’s listeners placed it in the top spot. The song started life as 'Hey Jules' - written by Paul McCartney to comfort John Lennon’s son, Julian, during his parents' divorce. It became their biggest selling U.S. single, and now provides a soundtrack to key events in modern British life, such as the London Olympics Opening Ceremony and The Queen's Golden Jubilee Concert."

The results of the vote will be announced on Union JACK Radio’s Breakfast Show this morning (Friday 10 December), JACK’s Wake Up Call, which is hosted by Jim Rosenthal and Trevor Marshall.
